Sermon Outline – RED (Part 2)

…The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every WORD that comes from the mouth of God.’” -Matthew 4:4 (NLT)

1. Read the Red.

2. Know the Red.

3. Live the Red.

2 Corinthians 11:3-4 (NLT)      [W A R N I N G]
3 But I fear that somehow your pure and undivided devotion to Christ will be corrupted, just as Eve was deceived by the cunning ways of the serpent. 4 You happily put up with whatever anyone tells you, even if they preach a different Jesus than the one we preach, or a different kind of Spirit than the one you received, or a different kind of gospel than the one you believed.

13 THINGS JESUS DIDN’T SAY

1. Follow me and everything will be easy and everyone will like you.

Luke 14:25-28, 33 (NLT)
25 A large crowd was following Jesus. He turned around and said to them, 26 “If you want to be my disciple, you must hate everyone else by comparison—your father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even your own life. Otherwise, you cannot be my disciple. 27 And if you do not carry your own cross and follow me, you cannot be my disciple. 28 “But don’t begin until you count the cost… 33 So you cannot become my disciple without giving up everything you own.

2. If someone is evil toward you go ahead and blast them on social media!

Matthew 5:43-48 (NLT)
43 “You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. 44 But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! 45 In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. 46 If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. 47 If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that. (Romans 12:21 says to overcome evil with good)

3. Remember, if the world hates you, don’t talk about your beliefs so you don’t offend them.

John 15:18-19 (NLT)
18 “If the world hates you, remember that it hated me first. 19 The world would love you as one of its own if you belonged to it, but you are no longer part of the world. I chose you to come out of the world, so it hates you.

4. You will never be given more than you can handle.

Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT)
28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

5. When really bad things happen to you it’s because everything happens for a reason.

John 10:10 (NLT)
The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.

6. I’m here now so it’s cool to throw out the Old Testament.

Matthew 5:17-20 (NLT)
17 “Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose. 18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved. 19 So if you ignore the least commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But anyone who obeys God’s laws and teaches them will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven. 20 “But I warn you—unless your righteousness is better than the righteousness of the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven!

7. I don’t care what you do as long as you’re happy.

John 14:15,21,23-24 (NLT)
“If you love me, obey my commandments. 21 Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. 23 All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them. 24 Anyone who doesn’t love me will not obey me. And remember, my words are not my own. What I am telling you is from the Father who sent me…

8. I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me…unless you were raised differently, then you’re off the hook.

John 14:6 says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”

9. For God so loved the world everyone is going to heaven.

Matthew 7:13-14 (NLT)
13 “You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. 14 But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.

10. Perfect church attendance, memorizing scriptures, and using your spiritual gifts will show the world you are my disciples.

John 13:34-35 (NLT)
34 So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. 35 Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”

11. Don’t be ashamed of me unless you’re trying to be politically correct and are practicing tolerance.

Mark 8:38 (NLT)
If anyone is ashamed of me and my message in these adulterous and sinful days, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person when he returns in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”

12. Tolerate each other as I have tolerated you.

2 Corinthians 6:17 (NLT)
Therefore, come out from among unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them, says the Lord. Don’t touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you.

13. If you want to have a BIG church don’t preach about sin.

John 8:31-32,34 (NLT)
“You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. 32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 34 “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin…
