Part 1 — My Church is His Church

I kicked of talking about things I love (e.g. beach, skiing, Dallas Cowboys, Bradley Braves basketball, Cubs, ribs, Starbucks).

We all love things. Do we love The Church?

• Church shouldn’t be tolerated, but celebrated.
• Church is not just a place we go to. It’s a living organism.
• Church is not a museum that dwells on the past, but a movement that is focused on the future.

Matthew 16:13-18 (MSG)
13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” 14 “Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.” 15 Then he asked them, “But who do you say I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being. 18 Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers (gates) of hell will not conquer it.

JESUS said, “I will build MY church.”

So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.

Dear friends, do you think you’ll get anywhere in this if you learn all the right words but never do anything? Does merely talking about faith indicate that a person really has it? For instance, you come upon an old friend dressed in rags and half-starved and say, “Good morning, friend! Be clothed in Christ! Be filled with the Holy Spirit!” and walk off without providing so much as a coat or a cup of soup—where does that get you? Isn’t it obvious that God-talk without God-acts is outrageous nonsense?

God-acts trump God-talk!
