It Doesn’t Really Matter What I Think

When it comes to determining whether or not abortion is wrong, right, or frankly “my right” there’s only one reason for drawing my conclusion. I’m not pro-life because I’m a pastor. I’m not pro-life because I was raised in church. I’m not pro-life because of my political affiliation. I’m not pro-life because I drove past some mad-at-the-world picketers with ill-suited signs. I’m pro-life because God is pro-life. I’m opposed to abortion because God is opposed to abortion.

I know, this is a pretty monumental claim. I mean, how can I speak for God, right? I’m not speaking for Him. He has already spoken. It’s already written in His word. I’m not sounding my own alarm or blowing my own horn. In fact, it doesn’t really matter what I think. As a follower of Jesus I embrace what He taught and we can find out what He taught by opening and examining His Word.

Jeremiah 1:5 says, “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart…”

Psalm 139:13-14 says, “You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.”

Job 31:5 makes it clear that it was GOD who created us in the womb.

After looking at the common denominator of these three scriptures I cannot justify terminating the life of someone God knew before he or she was even conceived. God is the Creator which means I don’t have the right to destroy His creation. Remember, one of His ten commandments is, “Thou shall not murder.” Uh, that’s good enough for me.

And for the person reading this while pounding your keyboard and screaming, “It’s my body so I can do what I want with it!” No, you can’t. Our body belongs to God. The Apostle Paul asks and answers the following question in 1 Corinthians 6:19, “Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself,”

God is the author of life…so yes, I am pro-life.

  1. God’s word answers every question we can ask. Thank you for showing how to answer questions like that. It is my opinion that is all important because I can’t give eternal life. Jesus can and he is the one who’s opinion is important!

  2. I completly agree with you. Thank you now I know how to explain why I’m pro life better.
