GOD is HEAVY.

  • And once again I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will chase after you. I have planned this in order to display my glory through Pharaoh and his whole army. After this the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord!” So the Israelites camped there as they were told. ~Exodus 14:4 (NLT)

Let me give you the summarized back story. Israel was in bondage to Egypt for 400 years. Sick of their slavery the Israelites cried out to God. God heard their cry and responded. He chose Moses to miraculously lead them out of captivity in Egypt. After some heavy persuasion Pharaoh not only agreed to let Israel leave, but practically threw them out and Israel plundered Egypt’s wealth as they went. Everything seemed like a big song and dance…until God led them straight to the Red Sea.

Enter the above verse. “Uh, thanks for the warning, God!”

As predicted Pharaoh changed his mind and was hot on Israel’s trail determined to bring them back to Egypt and back into slavery. To say Israel was freaking out is an understatement!

Notice that God said, “in order to display my glory.” The King James Version says, “and I will be honoured.” This word honoured comes from the Hebrew word kabad and is translated as “to be made heavy, be made abundant, to gain glory.”

God made it clear that there would be a challenge, that things were about to get…heavy. He was also clear that His glory would be displayed through Pharoah’s hardness and Israel’s worse nightmare.

You might be facing a monumental challenge right now but I want to encourage you to hang on and trust God. After all, God is…heavy. He can take something the enemy means for evil and He can somehow miraculously bring good…so that His glory and heaviness can be displayed.

My brother-in-law was facing imminent deportation a few weeks ago without an answer in sight. Instead, he received a miraculous reprieve just in the nick of time. It was such a stressful and overwhelming time for my sister and our entire family as our only hope was for God to intervene. He did. (You can read the full story here.)

So yeah, you might be staring ahead at the Red Sea with Pharaoh’s chariots chasing you from behind. Buckle up because God’s about to make a way where there is no way!

God is heavy.
